Brief bio:
Born in a small fishing village named Branch, in Easter Cove, St. Mary's Bay, Newfoundland, McGrath was born to an American Air Force Father and Newfoundland Mother. The tenth largest island in the world, Newfoundland is located off the east coast of Canada. The family was transferred to Little Rock Air Force Base in Jacksonville, AR in 1964, where McGrath has maintained residence since.
Drawing and painting from early childhood, McGrath began a serious persuit as a painter in the mid 80's. The first large scale work was an 8 x 10 foot mural for Northeastern University in Boston. A more recent large scale mural work is on display at the Jacksonville Police Department, CID, for whom McGrath also designed the official CID logo. A massive six by six foot work entitled 'Controlled Chaos' which was completed in 2004 is now installed in the new, multi-milllion dollar Ester D. Nixon Library in Jacksonville, AR in April of 2009 and a portrait entitled 'A Portrait of Salvatore Moltisanti' was unveiled and installed at the IBLA Headquarters in New York City, following an unveiling and presentation for Moltisanti himself in Jacksonville, AR on May 2, 2009. Current works include a life size painting of President William Jefferson Clinton and individual portraits of internationally acclaimed concert pianist Anna Rutkowska-Shock of Poland, concert pianist Gloria Campaner of Italy and internationally acclaimed Suprano Adrienn Miksch of Hungary. Most recent work is a Portrait of Governor Mike Beebe now on exhibit at the Arkansas Governor's Mansion in Little Rock as part of the State of Arkansas Permanent Mansion collection.
McGrath produces small, medium, and large works in oil, in a warehouse studio located twenty five feet from the railroad tracks in Jacksonville. An amateur violinist and cellist the Artist plays in a string trio with friends of the Little Rock Community Orchestra in weekend jam sessions at the artist's gallery.
